PAGE TWENTY-FOUR

PANEL ONE: BAXTER takes CARTER in his truck, and rides him around town.

BAXTER:
Gonna drive around town a bit. Tell me what you see.

PANEL TWO: First, they go to the school. The school is completely rejuvenated-- the graffitti is gone, the windows are repaired-- like it was never abandoned. There is a sheriff’s car parked outside. And a… would there be an ambulance? What would a small town do if they were carrying and cataloguing remains?

CARTER:
What in the--?

PANEL THREE: BAXTER pulls up next to the Doc/Coroner. Baxter grins at the “business as usual” scene.

BAXTER:
Nasty business, eh Doc?

DOC/CORONER:
That it was, Jody, that it was. Still, Sheriff has it all in hand-- I think we can say this sordid chapter’s closed.

PANEL FOUR: Carter pipes up, asking the Doc, who looks surprised at the question.

CARTER:
Guess the new Sheriff is handling it well?

DOC:
“NEW?” I’ve heard Sheriff BUFORD T. JUSTICE (whatever name that guy who wanted to be Sheriff after Christine) called many things, Mr. Carter, but he hasn’t been “new” for years. To hear him tell it, he’s ready for retirement.

PANEL FIVE: DOC waves. CARTER looks shocked. BAXTER waves back.

DOC:
You boys have a nice day, now.
