PAGE FIVE

PANEL ONE: THE GIRL’s face grows, her head now giant and distorted with great blank eyes and a screaming mouth; roaring at DYLAN:

NARR:
That’s when it happened. Her face–it changed, and her voice became a roar, and she screamed:

THE GIRL:
GO AWAAAY!

PANEL TWO: DYLAN has fallen over onto his backside. He is scared, looking up at her.

NARR:
And I knew then what she was. She was a ghost. My first ghost.

PANEL THREE: DYLAN looks at her feet– which are faded away to invisibility. However, she is floating over a hole he can see through the tall grass.

NARR:
I looked down and realized I couldn’t see her feet. Her legs just sort of faded away. But I also noticed she wasn’t floating over ground.

PANEL FOUR: Curiosity overcomes DYLAN as he crawls on his hands and knees over to the hole, looking down into its blackness.

NARR:
The grass had grown up around it, but she was hovering over a big hole. I guessed it was an old well.

PANEL FIVE: DYLAN looks back up at the girl, sympathy written all over his face.

NARR:
And then I knew what had happened.

DYLAN:
Is this where you died?

NARR2:
Come on, I was six. I wasn’t subtle.
