PANEL ONE: The next morning, Carter awakes in his bed at the Verfall Inn. He looks hung over.

NARR:
I woke up too tired to panic. Where was I? How did I get here?

PANEL TWO: CARTER gets up and goes over to the window, and opens the curtains.

NARR:
I was too worn out to remember. I was alive, and at that moment that was the only thing I cared about.

PANEL THREE: Outside the window, Walt, the Verfall Inn manager, waves good morning like nothing’s wrong. The world is sunny. Normal. Almost creepily average.

NARR:
I knew better than to wonder if I’d dreamed it. I reeked like a campfire… only the smoke was made of charring human flesh. It was sickly sweet and in every pore.
