PAGE TWENTY-ONE

PANEL ONE: as wide as the page, just a black rectangle, in which I will put the words “FIFTEEN YEARS LATER” in script.
PANEL TWO: DYLAN is exiting his house, carrying a box of colorful glass bottles out to his car. They are his shampoos and lotions that he makes for a local store. His MUM is standing on the porch, calling after him.

NARR:
An average day in Coven Cove is pretty normal; folks going to work, going about their business. My business is making soaps, shampoos and lotions for a local shop here in town. I was just loading up my car, amid the usual concerns from my Mum.

MUM:
DYLAN!

PANEL THREE: DYLAN, putting the box in his hatchback trunk, calls back to her.

DYLAN:
Yeah, ma?

MUM:
Jeet?*

DYLAN:
Yes, ma!

NARR:
*Did you eat?

PANEL FOUR: DYLAN’s MUM wants to know what he ate. She looks skeptically at him from the porch.

MUM:
Whudja have?

DYLAN (off-screen):
Can ‘o sardines, toast with cheez whiz, an’ some tea.

PANEL FIVE: DYLAN is in the driver’s seat of his car, starting it. His MUM still calls after him.

MUM:
Dylan, that’s not enough!

DYLAN:
Gotta go, ma!

MUM:
Don’t come cryin’ to me when you starve to death!

PANEL SIX: DYLAN drives off, his mom still calling after him; we see her out the back window of his car.

NARR:
My mum cares maybe a bit too much about me, but she means well. Still, the day’s gotta get done, and I’ve got things to do.
