POST-CON REPORT: EDMONTON EXPO 2014

Jeremy manning the table!
Jeremy manning the table!

Whoo!  Another Edmonton Expo come and gone!  Jeremy Thew and Michael McAdam manned the table at the con, and had an excellent time (as usual) with our talented friends Kyle Burles and Mike Rieger.

Although sales were down this year, we noted that attendance was up, with even more potential for expansion.  Thus, we’ll definitely be back in 2015 — who was it that said “90% of life is just showing up?”  You can’t be recognized for your creations if you’re not there to promote them, that’s for sure!

As I write this, Jeremy is busy sketching future print ideas and project covers for our five-weeks-from-now appearance at Bent-Con in Los Angeles, California.  One of the key things all conventions seem to engender is a heightened sense of inspiration for the future, and Edmonton Expo was no different– as soon as we got to my place we started discussing ideas for the next show.

Jeremy goes home today but he’ll be loaded down not just with luggage but with ideas (and my voice whining in his ears to keep a steady drawing schedule).  For my part, I pushed through my lagginess on some writing projects– I’m proud to say THUNDER #5 is in the hands of an ALL-NEW ARTIST.  That’s right.  A new artist is taking the reins for issue 5– watch this space for a promo announcement!

We debuted two new products on the table this show, our FIGHTING MOTHER PUCKERS puck starring –er– Puck from our favorite cartoon, Gargoyles.  We also had the TWILIGHT DETECTIVE AGENCY CASE JOURNAL, a fun blank journal that looks like a detective novel based on our TDA comic.

Speaking of TDA, WE SOLD OUT of issue #1 at the show.  Also, we sold out of the Diaperman Graphic Novel, the

complete collection of Diaperman from webcomic to issue 12 inclusive.  Still popular after all these years!  Watch for an announcement regarding Diaperman coming soon!

I’d like to congratulate the Edmonton Expo staff for a smooth, easy signup process, for being visible and around the whole weekend.  It’s appreciated exhibiting at a show that’s not only popular but knows what it’s doing.  See you in 2015!

NEW COMIC “SPECTRUM” COMING SOON!

Two Gargoyles is venturing into new territory (for us) with our upcoming project, “Spectrum.”  Written by Michael McAdam and illustrated by Jeremy Thew, Spectrum is about a young man who is coming to terms with being gay at the same time as he gains superpowers.  In the past, comics have focussed on the coming out process, the sex, or gone right for the campy fun aspect of the gay community; SPECTRUM is about introducing the reader, through the eyes of its main character Richie Sorensen, to the entire rainbow of LGBT culture.

SPECTRUM will show as much of the slice-of-life of gay teens’ struggle to understand themselves, while parallelling those struggles with the hero’s (and heroine’s!) journey to realization of their full potential.

Get out your colorful costumes, and be prepared to find your best self along the rainbow road as you join the SPECTRUM!
