Whew! Now wasn’t THAT a party.
Folks, Calgary Comic Expo was far and away our best show yet. We sold out of all our print copies of Twilight Detective Agency #1, sold out of our table-bling magnets and sundries and met some truly GREAT people.
The best compliment a creator can ever hear is when someone asks: “Is there any more?”
Thunder issues 1-3 were the best sellers over the course of the weekend, generating steady interest and return customers who had bought issue 1 and were hooked! It seems that they, like we, were starved for some Canadian heroes! Maybe one day, Thunder can meet Captain Canuck!
The show itself was as huge as ever — some 50 000+ attendants, according to the Calgary SUN– but the traffic flow was marvelous. Another thing that made the difference to TwoGargs was our choice to move our presence from the Small Press area to Artist’s Alley. Not only was there a steady stream of people coming past the table but there were lots of people to help out and watch tables when bathroom breaks were needed! Great group of folks in Artist’s Alley– professional creators, first-timers, artists and crafters– you should always make the Alley part of your convention experience. This is where you’ll find the next Gail Simone or Jim Lee! (or even the current ones!)
TwoGargs already has a table for next year– and if you missed us this year, don’t forget that all our comics are available thru IndyPlanet!
Hey folks! Busy weekend down here at Calgary Expo! Drop by our table at Artist’s Alley– H-06!
It’s t-minus one week until the Calgary Comic Expo! Twogargs will be there, of course, debuting Twilight Detective Agency #1 for Calgary audiences as well as premiering THUNDER #3, for the first time anywhere!
Nothing says “convention preparation” like last-minute product orders, so I’m happy to announce a very special set of magnets for sale at our table– just ordered rush-rush-rush today from Vistaprint. What are the magnets? Well, that’s a surprise for the show- but here’s a hint, it has something to do with our name. AW yeah.
Very excited, very manic here this week! Hope to see you all at the Expo!
Up and Away!
This is just to announce to all our readers out there that the completed script for THUNDER issue four is now in the hands of talented artist Dean Meek, with a release target date of EDMONTON EXPO, September 28-29, 2013! Now that Two Gargs is showing at THREE conventions a year (Seattle, Calgary and Edmonton), we have a much clearer idea of when we need our books to come out!
2013 has had a very promising start for us, and there’s nothing like early success to get (and keep) the creative juices flowing. Naturally, we couldn’t do it without readers! Thanks so much for joining us! Now everyone go and tell two friends!
Now that the furor has died down after the convention and we’ve managed to unpack (mostly), let me just say that our first showing at Emerald City was– stellar. Unexpectedly so. We managed to get our table very last-minute (we were put on a waiting list early on and managed to sneak in just under the wire)!
The size of the show was fantastic. They had doubled in size from last year, when Jeremy and Michael attended as congoers. This year, there were TWO major dealer’s rooms, TWO Artists’ Alleys, and it was difficult just to figure out how to get to the table for setup! This, however, is a great problem to have as more space=more folks to fill it!
We debuted Gargoyles series fridge magnets on the table as an eyecatching device and it succeeded beyond our wildest expectations. People were coming up to the table, sharing their love of Gargoyles the TV show, talking about watching it after school or in University or with their kids, and this of course naturally segued into conversations about Two Gargoyles’ newest comic, Twilight Detective Agency.
Also a delight was Diaperman– in Seattle, people seemed to intrinsically understand that Diaperman was meant to be ridiculous– other audiences have sometimes found the premise confusing. The best comment was when a reader picked up the comic, looked through it, and exclaimed in apparent joy: “This is RIDICULOUS!” and then bought the entire collection. Right on, Mr. Reader, right on!
Jeremy had a button maker and did very well with his custom art buttons– taking commissions at the table, and making people a button of whatever character they wanted, along with his incredibly well-drawn convention sketches.
We will definitely be returning to this show– we already bought our table! A big thank you to Emerald City and a shout-out to all the fans and readers that supported us! We love you guys!
Two Gargoyles is happy to report that writer Michael McAdam and artist Jeremy Thew will be present at the Emerald City Comic Convention in Seattle, March 1-3!
Twogargs has a table in the Artist’s Alley of the main show floor, table number Y-04. Why for? Because we want to show you our stuff! We’ll be debuting the first issue of our gargoyle detective comic, Twilight Detective Agency, at the show, as well as introducing Seattle readers to superhero Thunder, and the always-fun Diaperman!
Come on down and see us, we’d love to meet you!
All new TwoGargs page! That’s right– we’ve made the jump to WordPress, thanks to Mike Rieger, so that we can more dynamically update our site with news, pics and appearances made by our creators and characters!
Coming up very soon for us is the Emerald City Comic Convention on March 1-3! Writer Michael McAdam and artist Jeremy Thew will be manning a table. Also, we will be premiering TWILIGHT DETECTIVE AGENCY #1 at this convention, so if you’re a fan of Gargoyles, and you like supernatural mystery solving detectives, then this is a must-get book!
If you can’t come see us in Seattle, then watch for us in Calgary at the Calgary Comic Expo on April 26-28 in (you guessed it) Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Details on that show to come!
For now, please explore our new page, and remember– feedback is appreciated!
